What is HBOT?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a non-invasive, restorative treatment that delivers pure oxygen under increased pressure inside a hyperbaric chamber. This enhanced environment allows oxygen to dissolve deeply into the bloodstream and tissues, even in areas with limited blood flow, supporting the body’s natural healing and regeneration processes. Often called “super-oxygenation,” HBOT can reduce inflammation, accelerate recovery, boost cognitive function, combat infection, and energise cellular repair. Recognised worldwide, it’s used both clinically and in wellness settings to support healing, longevity, sports recovery, and overall vitality.
How does it work?
During your session, you’ll relax inside our comfortable hyperbaric chamber as the pressure gradually increases—this is known as the “descent.” You'll gently pressurise to a level equivalent to being up to 10 metres underwater (around 1.5 to 2.0 ATA), allowing your body to absorb oxygen at significantly higher levels. Once at pressure, you’ll simply breathe and relax as the oxygen saturates your blood plasma, reaching deep into tissues—even those with limited circulation. This pressurised “dwell” phase supports reduced inflammation, enhanced healing, and deep cellular recovery. At the end of your session, the chamber will slowly return to normal air pressure (1 ATA) during the “ascent,” easing you gently back to the surface.
Why do Hyperbaric
Oxygen is essential for healing—but in many cases, such as poor circulation, injury, or chronic inflammation, the body simply can’t deliver enough of it to the tissues that need it most. HBOT helps overcome this by flooding the body with pure oxygen under gentle pressure, allowing it to reach deep into damaged or oxygen-starved areas. This increased oxygen supports your body’s natural healing processes—boosting immune response, reducing swelling, accelerating tissue repair, and stimulating the growth of new blood vessels. Safe, non-invasive, and deeply restorative, HBOT is a powerful way to support recovery, vitality, and long-term wellbeing.

Have Questions? your not alone
We’ve compiled answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to help guide you. If your question isn’t listed, we’re always happy to help—feel free to call us or chat in person at the clinic.
-
Yes — children can absolutely benefit from HBOT when appropriate. At Thrive O₂, we offer shorter 30-minute sessions for younger clients. Our hard chamber is spacious, and the design helps avoid feelings of confinement. For children small enough to sit safely on a lap, a parent is welcome to join them in the chamber for added comfort and reassurance. Parents should always check with their child’s medical professional first to ensure the therapy aligns with any current treatment plans.
-
Our pod is light, spacious, and designed to minimise feelings of confinement. It’s see-through, well-lit, and you’re never locked in. For those concerned, shorter sessions or bringing a book can help ease any nerves.
-
You don’t need a referral to book a session at Thrive O₂—anyone seeking wellness, recovery, or performance support is welcome. However, if you have a chronic illness or are currently taking medication, we strongly recommend speaking with your doctor before beginning HBOT to ensure it’s the right fit for your health needs. We’re also happy to collaborate with your healthcare provider as part of your care team.

ItThe real question isn’t if—it’s when. At some point in our lives, we all experience periods of dis-ease, inflammation, or cellular imbalance. HBOT offers a safe, natural way to support the body’s healing processes and restore optimal function when it’s needed most. So while not everyone may benefit from HBOT at their current stage in life, most people will encounter a time when its support is deeply valuable.
-
HBOT works cumulatively, with benefits building over time as oxygen saturation increases throughout the body. Each individual’s needs, goals, and capacity to invest in treatment are unique. We’re here to help you create a personalised session plan that aligns with your wellness journey—simply chat with us to explore the best approach for you.
-
Preparation is simple. We recommend wearing comfortable, breathable clothing and avoiding alcohol, caffeine, or heavy meals before your session. Stay well-hydrated, and be sure to remove any jewellery, watches, or electronic devices before entering the pod. You’re welcome to bring a book or simply relax—this is your time to switch off and let your body recharge. If you’re unsure about anything, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
-
Our pod is fully pressurised with oxygen, so there’s no need to wear a mask — offering a more natural, comfortable experience without the added cost. However, if you prefer direct oxygen delivery via mask, this can be arranged upon request.
-
HBOT is a non-invasive treatment that involves breathing 100% oxygen inside a pressurised chamber. This allows oxygen to dissolve deeply into the body’s tissues, even in areas with poor blood flow, helping to support healing, reduce inflammation, and restore vitality.
-
Not all hyperbaric chambers are the same—there are different types and pressure levels, which affect the depth and intensity of the therapy. At Thrive O₂, we use a 2.0 ATA hard-shell chamber, which delivers medical-grade pressurised oxygen for deeper, more effective cellular healing compared to mild (soft-shell) chambers typically operating below 1.5 ATA. While all chambers work by increasing oxygen availability in the body, higher pressure chambers stimulate greater oxygen absorption and therapeutic benefit, particularly for inflammation, tissue repair, and neurological recovery. We’ve chosen our chamber to offer a more potent, clinic-grade experience in a luxe wellness setting.
-
Most people describe HBOT as a calming, meditative experience — you’ll be seated or reclining in a comfortable pressurised pod, breathing pure oxygen while feeling a gentle pressure change, similar to taking off in a plane.
-
Sessions at Thrive O₂ typically last 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your needs and goals. We also offer 30-minute sessions for children, first-timers, or those easing into the therapy. Session times refer to the time you are actually inside the pod, breathing oxygen under pressure. Your total visit time may be slightly longer to allow for pre-session preparation (like hydrating and removing jewellery or devices).
-
Yes—HBOT is a safe, non-invasive therapy that has been used worldwide for decades. At Thrive O₂, we use a high-quality hard chamber rated to 2.0 ATA and follow strict safety protocols to ensure every session is calm, comfortable, and carefully monitored.
-
Yes — the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy continue well beyond the session. While elevated oxygen levels in your plasma gradually return to normal over a few hours, the positive effects can last for days or even weeks. Many clients report lasting improvements such as increased energy, clearer thinking, and reduced pain. To maximise these results, we recommend staying well-hydrated, eating nourishing anti-inflammatory foods, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
-
No food or drink is allowed in the pod, in line with our clinic’s safety and comfort guidelines. We provide filtered, hydrogen-infused water before and after your session to support hydration and cellular health, but due to pressure changes, we recommend avoiding water consumption during the treatment itself.
-
While HBOT is safe for most people, it may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals with untreated pneumothorax (collapsed lung), active pneumonia, certain sinus or ear conditions, or those undergoing specific chemotherapy treatments should avoid HBOT. If you have asthma, it’s important to ensure it’s well-managed and not in an active flare—please consult your doctor first. We’re here to help guide you through any questions before booking.
