What is HBOT?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a non-invasive wellness therapy performed inside a pressurised hyperbaric chamber operating within a high-concentration oxygen environment under increased atmospheric pressure. This enhanced environment allows oxygen to dissolve more readily into the blood plasma and circulate throughout the body — including areas where circulation may be reduced.

HBOT may help support circulation, recovery, relaxation, and the body’s natural restorative processes. Many people explore HBOT as part of their broader wellness routine to support recovery, energy, performance, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing.

Recognised worldwide, HBOT is used across both clinical and wellness settings in relation to recovery, rehabilitation, performance, and general wellness support.

How does it work?

During your session, you’ll relax inside our comfortable hyperbaric chamber as the pressure gradually increases — this is known as the “descent.” You’ll gently pressurise to a selected depth of dive, being somewhere between 1-10 metres underwater (1.1ATA to 2.0 ATA), allowing oxygen to dissolve more readily into the blood plasma and circulate throughout the body.

Once at pressure, you’ll simply breathe and relax as oxygen is delivered throughout the body — including areas where circulation may be reduced. This pressurised “dwell” phase may help support circulation, recovery, relaxation, and the body’s natural restorative processes.

At the end of your session, the chamber will gradually return to normal atmospheric pressure (1 ATA) during the “ascent,” easing you gently back to the surface.

Why do Hyperbaric

Oxygen plays an essential role in how the body restores, recovers, and recharges. During an HBOT session, you gently “dive” beneath the surface inside a pressurised hyperbaric chamber, creating an environment where oxygen can dissolve more readily into the blood plasma and circulate throughout the body.

Much like the calm and stillness experienced underwater, HBOT invites the body into a deeply restorative state — supporting relaxation, recovery, circulation, and overall wellbeing.

Many people explore HBOT as part of their wellness routine to support energy, performance, recovery, and moments of intentional pause in an otherwise demanding world.

Safe, non-invasive, and grounding, HBOT offers a unique experience where science, restoration, and serenity meet beneath the surface.

The Machine

At Thrive O₂, we’ve chosen the Cryo Science Infinity Pod — a premium hard-shell hyperbaric chamber capable of operating at pressures up to 2.0 ATA within a high-concentration oxygen environment.

Supplied and supported by a long-standing Australian company, the Infinity Pod has been selected with a strong focus on quality, safety, performance, and client comfort.

Designed to deliver a calm, spacious, and deeply restorative experience, the chamber supports consistent pressure delivery and oxygen availability throughout each session.

Not all hyperbaric chambers are created equal. Chamber design, pressure capability, oxygen environment, and overall user experience can vary significantly between systems. That’s why we’ve invested in technology that aligns with our commitment to quality, safety, comfort, and a premium wellness experience.

The result is an immersive wellness experience designed to help you slow down, switch off, and restore beneath the surface.

Have Questions? your not alone

We’ve compiled answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to help guide you. If your question isn’t listed, we’re always happy to help—feel free to call us or chat in person at the clinic.

  • Yes — children may be able to explore HBOT as part of their broader wellness or recovery support, depending on their individual needs and suitability.

At Thrive O₂, we offer shorter 30-minute sessions for younger clients, designed to create a calm and comfortable introduction to the experience. Our hard-shell chamber is spacious and designed to feel open and relaxing, helping minimise feelings of confinement.

For children small enough to sit safely on a parent’s lap, a parent or guardian is welcome to join them in the chamber for additional comfort and reassurance.

At Thrive O₂, we take a conservative and personalised approach to children’s sessions, prioritising gentle MHBOT pressure ranges and gradual session progression to support a calm, comfortable, and age-appropriate experience. We do not operate above mild hyperbaric pressure ranges for children within our clinic.

We always recommend parents consult with their child’s healthcare professional prior to commencing HBOT, particularly if the child has any underlying medical conditions or ongoing treatment plans.

  • Our chamber is spacious, light-filled, and thoughtfully designed to minimise feelings of confinement. With large clear viewing panels, soft lighting, and a calm open feel, most people are surprised by how relaxing the experience feels once inside.

You are never locked in, and sessions are always guided and monitored throughout. Clients can communicate freely with our trained staff at any stage during the session with the simple press of a button, providing reassurance and support whenever needed.

For anyone feeling a little unsure, we can begin gently with shorter sessions and gradual pressurisation to help you feel comfortable and at ease.

  • No referral is required to book a session at Thrive O₂. Anyone exploring wellness, recovery, relaxation, or performance support is welcome.

If you have a chronic or complex health condition, are currently taking medication, or are under ongoing medical care, we recommend speaking with your healthcare professional prior to commencing HBOT to ensure it is appropriate for your individual circumstances.

We’re also happy to work collaboratively alongside your existing healthcare providers where appropriate.

  • Not necessarily — everyone’s body, lifestyle, and wellness goals are different. Some people explore HBOT for recovery and performance support, while others are simply looking for a space to slow down, recharge, and support their overall wellbeing.

Throughout life, most of us experience periods of stress, fatigue, physical strain, inflammation, or increased recovery demands. HBOT may help support the body’s natural restorative processes during these times.

At Thrive O₂, we believe hyperbaric therapy is not about pushing the body harder — it’s about supporting it thoughtfully, meeting each individual where they are, and creating space for recovery, balance, and restoration when it’s needed most.

  • HBOT is often explored as a cumulative wellness experience, with many people choosing to incorporate sessions consistently over time as part of their broader recovery and wellbeing routine.

How often you choose to attend can vary depending on your individual goals, lifestyle, recovery needs, and how your body responds to sessions. Some people come weekly for ongoing wellness support, while others may explore more regular sessions during periods of increased physical or mental demand.

At Thrive O₂, we take a personalised approach and are always happy to help guide you toward a session rhythm that feels supportive, sustainable, and aligned with your individual wellness journey.

  • Preparation is simple. We recommend wearing comfortable, breathable clothing (cotton or linen is best) and avoiding alcohol, caffeine, or heavy meals immediately before your session. Staying well hydrated beforehand can also help support a more comfortable experience.

Prior to entering the pod, you’ll be asked to remove jewellery, watches, electronic devices, and any restricted items as part of our safety protocols.

You’re welcome to bring a book or simply use the time to unwind, switch off, and relax beneath the surface. If you’re unsure about anything before your session, our team is always here to guide you every step of the way.

  • Our pod operates within a high-concentration oxygen environment, so most clients do not need to wear a mask during their session — creating a more natural and comfortable experience.

For those who prefer direct oxygen delivery via mask, this can also be arranged upon request.

  • HBOT is a non-invasive wellness therapy performed inside a pressurised chamber with a high-concentration oxygen environment. Under pressure, oxygen dissolves more readily into the blood plasma and circulates throughout the body, supporting recovery, relaxation, and overall wellbeing.

  • Not all hyperbaric chambers are the same. Chamber type, pressure capability, oxygen environment, and overall user experience can vary significantly between systems.

At Thrive O₂, we use a hard-shell chamber capable of operating at pressures up to 2.0 ATA within a high-concentration oxygen environment. Higher-pressure chambers allow oxygen to dissolve more readily into the blood plasma compared to lower-pressure systems, creating a different style of hyperbaric experience.

Importantly, more pressure is not always better. Hyperbaric therapy is highly individual, and sessions should be tailored to each person’s comfort, goals, and nervous system capacity on the day.

Our chamber allows for precise control over pressure levels, timing of descent and ascent, and overall session experience — helping create a calm, supportive, and comfortable environment while avoiding unnecessary overstimulation.

We’ve chosen the Infinity Pod to provide a spacious, restorative, and thoughtfully guided hyperbaric experience aligned with our focus on quality, comfort, and personalised wellness support.

  • Most people describe HBOT as deeply calming and restorative. You’ll relax in a comfortable pressurised pod within a high-concentration oxygen environment while experiencing a gentle pressure change, similar to the sensation of descending underwater or taking off in a plane.

  • Sessions at Thrive O₂ typically last between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on your individual goals and comfort level. We also offer shorter 30-minute sessions for children, first-timers, or those easing into the experience.

Session times refer to the time spent inside the pod under pressure within a high-concentration oxygen environment. Your total visit time may be slightly longer to allow for a relaxed arrival, pre-session preparation, and gradual descent and ascent within the chamber.

  • HBOT has been used around the world for decades and is widely regarded as a well-tolerated wellness modality when appropriate screening and protocols are followed. At Thrive O₂, your comfort and care are a priority. We use a premium hard chamber rated to 2.0 ATA and follow thorough safety procedures, with all sessions carefully supervised and monitored.

Because every individual is different, all clients complete a detailed health screening before commencing sessions.

  • Many people continue to notice the effects of HBOT beyond the session itself. While oxygen levels within the blood plasma gradually return to normal over time, the body’s restorative and recovery processes continue well after the session has finished.

Individual experiences can vary, but some clients report feeling more energised, mentally refreshed, rested, or supported in their overall wellbeing following sessions.

To help support your overall recovery and wellness experience, we encourage staying well hydrated, nourishing your body with balanced whole foods, prioritising quality sleep, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

  • No food or drink is permitted inside the pod as part of our safety and comfort protocols.

Filtered hydrogen-infused water is available before and after your session to support hydration and overall wellness. During the session itself, we encourage clients to simply relax, unwind, and enjoy the restorative experience beneath the surface.

  • While HBOT is generally well tolerated, it may not be suitable for everyone. Certain medical conditions, medications, or active illnesses may require additional screening or medical clearance prior to commencing sessions.

Individuals with an untreated Pneumothorax, active pneumonia, some ear or sinus conditions, or those undergoing certain chemotherapy treatments may not be suitable for HBOT. If you have asthma, it’s important that it is well managed and not in an active flare prior to sessions.

At Thrive O₂, all clients complete a detailed health screening before beginning HBOT, and we’re always happy to guide you through any questions or concerns prior to booking.
